‘Asthma Education Empowers’ – Together, Let’s Enhance Asthma Education
World Asthma Day 7th May 2024
World Asthma Day (WAD) is organised by the Global Initiative for Asthma, (GINA) to raise awareness of Asthma worldwide. This year it takes place on Tuesday 7th May.
This significant day is dedicated to raising awareness, advancing understanding, and promoting initiatives that enhance the lives of individuals affected by asthma across the globe. Through educational campaigns, community events, and advocacy efforts, WAD endeavours to empower individuals, healthcare professionals, and communities alike to take proactive measures in managing and combating asthma.
For 2024 the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) has unveiled the theme “Asthma Education Empowers”. This theme highlights the crucial importance of empowering individuals with asthma through comprehensive education, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively manage their condition and recognise when to seek medical assistance.
GINA calls upon healthcare professionals to enhance their awareness of the ongoing preventable morbidity and mortality associated with asthma, as well as the wealth of evidence supporting effective asthma management strategies. By ensuring healthcare professionals are well-informed and equipped to deliver accurate information and optimal treatment, we can strive towards improved outcomes and quality of life for asthma patients worldwide.
‘Asthma is one of the most common chronic non-communicable diseases that affects over 260 million people and is responsible for over 450000 deaths each year worldwide, most of which are preventable.’ 1
