Carbon Reduction Plan

Our Commitment

National Services for Health (NSHI) Ltd and LungHealth Ltd are committed to achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2045.

What does Net Zero mean in practice?

To achieve Net Zero, we will be aiming to reduce emissions in line with guidance published by the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi). Targets can be defined as “science-based” when they align with the scale of reductions required to limit global temperature increases to 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial temperatures. To achieve Net Zero under this scenario, we will need to reduce our absolute emissions by 90% from our baseline year. SBTi also recommends that organisations commit to near-term targets (that cover a minimum of 5 years/maximum of 10 years from the baseline year), as well as long-term targets.

Our near-term targets:

  • Reduce our scope 1 emissions by 48% from a 2024 baseline by 2032
  • Reduce our location-based* scope 2 emissions by 48% from a 2024 baseline by 2035
  • Reduce our market-based* scope 2 emissions to zero by 2035
  • Reduce our scope 3 emissions by 42% from a 2024 baseline by 2032

Our long-term targets:

  • Reduce our total scope 1, location-based scope 2 and scope 3 emissions by at least 90% by 2045
  • Neutralise any residual emissions using verified carbon offsets

Emissions covered by our targets:

  • Scope 1 emissions: direct greenhouse gas emissions that occur from sources owned or controlled by a company, such as emissions from the combustion of fuels in on-site boilers, furnaces, or vehicles
  • Scope 2 emissions: indirect greenhouse gas emissions that result from the generation of purchased electricity, steam or other forms of energy consumed by a company
  • Scope 3 emissions: all other indirect greenhouse gas emissions that occur in an organisation’s value chain, including emissions from upstream and downstream activities

* As the tenants of a managed building including all energy use, we have no control over the source of energy used in our building nor can we calculate our energy use from any other lessee, we will however work with our landlord (local council) to improve the energy usage in line with their Carbon Reduction Plan of Net Zero by 2035. Breckland Council (our landlord) has committed to reducing their Scope 2 emissions by 48% by 2035 in line with their CRP. We will also ensure that we educate our employees on saving energy.

Baseline Emissions

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced before the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured. We have set our baseline year for scope 1 and 2 emissions as the 1st of January 2024 to the 31st of December 2024.

Baseline Figures 2024
All scope 1 and both upstream and downstream scope 3 emissions were measured using the operational control approach.  This reporting period will be used as the baseline period against which emissions reductions will be measured
Emissions Total (tonnes CO2e)
Scope 1 202.7
Scope 2 *Incalculable
Scope 3 56.8
Total Scope 1 & 3 Emissions 259.5

Carbon Reduction

Our Carbon Reduction Targets

NSHI Ltd and LungHealth Limited are committed to achieving Net Zero by 2045.  We have set near targets that will be tracked yearly to 2032

Scope 1 target: Reduce the number of fossil fuel cars to Electric Vehicles

We have already reduced our fossil fuel cars from 53 to 48 and will strive to achieve 6 car conversions per year as the leases come to an end with the anticipation that by 2032, we are 100% Electric.

Scope 2 Targets:  Working with our Landlord

As a tenant of a Local Council Office’s Complex, we are not in control of the purchase of energy, waste removal or building maintenance.  Breckland Council has made the commitment to be Net Zero by 2035, we will commit to working with the local council to implement any plan they have to reduce Carbon usage and will educate and encourage all our employees to be aware of Carbon Reduction Plans and to reduce our company usage of heating, lighting, water, waste and air conditioning.

Scope 3 Targets: Upstream/Downstream

Our suppliers

We will endeavour wherever possible to use suppliers who have Carbon Reduction Plans in place and whose ethos regarding Carbon Reduction reflects our commitment to becoming Net Zero by 2045

Our Supply Chain

NSHI Ltd and LungHealth Limited are providers of Nursing Services all across the country and Medical IT Diagnostic tools and therefore do not provide any physical goods.  Our supply chain is the provision of nursing requisites and equipment to our team of Specialist Nurses.  We will actively look to dispatch these parcels via courier services that are also working towards Net Zero.

Future Carbon Reduction Plans

We are committing to action the following emissions management measures and projects in line with our Net Zero targets.

Activity No. Activity Target Date Category
1 The procurement of goods and services primarily finished goods and services is the largest contributing category to our total emissions.  These emissions are the emissions of our suppliers, and so we need to prioritise our purchasing to those suppliers who are also working towards Net Zero.  We will do this by surveying the suppliers Carbon Reduction Plans and selecting based on their commitment to Net Zero 2025 Purchased Goods and Services
2 We will continue to change company vehicles to Electric where feasible with the expectation of a fully electric fleet of company cars by 2032 2032 Company Cars, Business Travel
3 Employee training and encouragement to actively reduce our energy footprint through ensuring lights are switched off in non-essential areas, making full use of recycling facilities provided and only using heating and cooling when necessary 2025 Purchased Electricity and waste
4 Locate and use a recycling service for old unrepairable IT equipment to offset our carbon footprint and prevent recyclable items reaching landfill 2025 Waste management/recycling
5 Stop using plug in space heaters in the offices – utilising the more efficient low wattage storage heaters provided in the building 2025 Purchased Electricity
6 Look to incorporate all our current hardcopy service paperwork into online URL documents to save paper, postage and waste 2026 Downstream Distribution

Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard1 and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting2
