Breathlessness Hub receives widespread recognition in Journal of American Cardiology (JACC)
We are delighted to announce Everton in the Community’s BEAT Breathlessness Hub has been published in the prestigious Journal of American Cardiology (JACC): Heart Failure.
This is a significant milestone for the charity, highlighting its innovative approach to early diagnosis and treatment for heart and lung health. As England’s first community-based heart and lung screening hub, it provides local residents access to early detection and treatment for heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other chronic conditions.
Being featured in the JACC journal, which is among the most influential cardiovascular publications worldwide, emphasises the impact of this important project.
Over the past 12 months NSHI have supported the BEAT Breathlessness Hub to deliver a Chronic Breathlessness service to people within the deprived locality, who have experienced ill-health, and chronic breathlessness of more than 4 weeks.
Utilising CardioLungHealth intelligent screening diagnostic software, we provide a guided clinical review through the relevant pathway of Respiratory/or Cardiovascular diagnostics, to identify the potential cause of symptoms and determine the necessary clinical investigations.
This ‘walk-in-service’ for local residents and Everton FC season ticket holders aged over 40 years, also includes point of care testing for HbA1c, ECG and NT-ProBNP and where clinically appropriate Spirometry, FeNO and Echocardiogram, performed by NSHI Respiratory Nurse Advisors.
Through this pathway, the charity increases early detection and intervention of chronic conditions while also reducing pressure on the region’s public health service, and saving money within the NHS. By providing this hub, EitC are improving community health and encouraging greater engagement with local health services.
