LungHealth clinically validated computer-guided software
launches across Greater Manchester
We are proud to announce the launch of our LungHealth software in up to 150 GP practices across Greater Manchester as part of the MISSION project. This is a collaborative working project between Chiesi Limited and Health Innovation Manchester, with LungHealth delivered by NSHI Ltd.
Over two million people in the UK are estimated to be living with uncontrolled asthma. Nationally, only 17.6% of patients with COPD receive a full package of care. 1, 2
Respiratory-related emergency hospital admissions in Greater Manchester are 30% higher than the national average. 3
The iMprovIng outcomeS in reSpIratory acrOss Greater MaNchester (MISSION) project marks the largest regional implementation of LungHealth software in the UK. It aims to evaluate whether technology can improve the overall quality, effectiveness and consistency of reviews for adults aged 18 and over but also reduce the impact of asthma and COPD exacerbation on patients and the NHS.
LungHealth software has been designed to incorporate embedded algorithms based on national and international guidelines such as NICE/BTS/SIGN and GOLD, alongside the patient’s own medical records, to allow healthcare professionals to complete a computer-guided consultation review for asthma and COPD either remotely or face-to-face.
A key benefit for healthcare professionals to adopt LungHealth software is its ability to support them to perform high quality and consistent reviews without the need to remember every detail of the latest guidelines. As new guidelines are released, the system is centrally updated, ensuring patient care is always in line with the latest advice. By using LungHealth software patients will receive recommendations for the most appropriate medication, and the software will also identify and flag potentially linked conditions for further investigation.
Additionally, the software signposts community support available such as pulmonary rehabilitation services and smoking cessation and provides clinical prompts to upskill healthcare professionals for the future.
Tabby Cowley Account Director, NSHI Ltd commented, “At NSHI improving patient outcomes is at the forefront of everything we do, and we have worked tirelessly to develop LungHealth as a platform to support healthcare professionals to deliver the best patient care in line with the latest guidelines. We are excited to watch the development of the MISSION project after the successful implementation of previously piloted projects STARS-GM and COPD Legacy.”
